Leichte Beute für Funkpiraten

Es war eine erkenntnisreiche Spritztour, die Mitglieder des Chaos Computer Clubs vor einigen Monaten in Berlin unternahmen. Die neugierigen Technikfreaks fuhren mit dem Auto wahllos durch die Stadt. Mit im Fahrzeug: ein Laptop, an den eine Funknetzwerkkarte angeschlossen war. Das Gerät meldete automatisch, wenn eine Chance bestand, damit in ein drahtloses Netz einzudringen.

Die Anzahl dieser Computernetze, mit denen Unternehmen und öffentliche Einrichtungen ihre Rechner kabellos miteinander verbinden, wächst rasant - obwohl die Technik höchst unsicher ist. In ganz Europa greifen, den US-Marktforschern Frost & Sullivan zufolge, 1,8 Millionen Menschen auf rund 60 000 so genannte Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) zu. In Berlin dürften weit über hundert solcher Funknetze betrieben werden. Vor allem in der Nähe von Unternehmen und Krankenhäusern wurden die Hobbyhacker fündig. Sie entdeckten einige Dutzend ungesicherte Netze, in denen sie vom geparkten Auto aus Patientendaten oder E-Mails mitlesen und kopieren konnten. Die meisten verfügten über keinerlei Sicherheitsvorkehrungen, einige verließen sich auf die völlig unzureichenden Zugangsschranken, die Hersteller ab Werk mitgeliefert hatten. "Das war alles sehr gastfreundlich", resümiert der Sprecher des Chaos Computer Clubs, Jens Ohlig.
