Now playing

by Volker Weber

Really, really loud

I can see you in the morning when you go to school Don't forget your books, you know you've got to learn the golden rule, Teacher tells you stop your play and get on with your work And be like Johnnie - too-good, well don't you know he never shirks - he's coming along!

After School is over you're playing in the park
Don't be out too late, don't let it get too dark
They tell you not to hang around and learn what life's about
And grow up just like them - won't you let it work it out
- and you're full of doubt

Don't do this and don't do that
What are they trying to do?- Make a good boy of you
Do they know where it's at?
Don't criticize, they're old and wise
Do as they tell you to
Don't want the devil to
Come out and put your eyes

Maybe I'm mistaken expecting you to fight
Or maybe I'm just crazy, I don't know wrong from right
But while I am still living, I've just got this to say
It's always up to you if you want to be that
want to see that
want to see that way
- you're coming along!

Supertramp, School, Crime of the Century, 1974

Now, am I really that old? :-)

Comments

Wonderful Music, only in the 70's.

If it makes you feel any better Volker, I like some of Supertramp's stuff! Crime of the Century is a fine album. But what may make you feel worse is that at the time of its release, I was aged 2...

;-)

I am not feeling bad at all. Actually I never felt much better. :-) I am just having a blast with the iMac. The last machine that brought all of my old music back from the shelves was the SONY 400 CD-Changer. But while I am working the iMac is much more convenient. I hooked it up to an amp with two small Canton speakers (very quick and precise) and a (baaad) Yamaho boombox. Woohooo.

Supertramp was a must-have these times but nowadays it appears rather trivial to me.
What about "The Smiths"? I still love "Bigmouth Strikes Again" (and "There Is A Light That Never Goes out" (soft). And hey - YES?

But best of all was, is and perhaps will be the TALKING HEADS.
"Slippery People" live is about as far as you can ever feel the rythm.

I wish I'd have the time to dig through all my ol' tapes - looking forward...

Bye,
Wolfgang (isn't it *really* great to be that old?)

I have no problem with that being trivial. I mean everybody can play Led Zeppelin's Smoke On The Water on the guitar. It is still history. Even the British Glamour Rock Bands like Sweet, Slade and so on give me a blast from time to time. Marc Bolan died young enough to not make a fool out of himself.

Re Supertramp: I don't care for anything after the Paris concert.

Next on my playlist is The Style Council. Completely different animal. :-)

Dear Volker,

I would not say that you are old. You just seem to have a good taste in music. I think that mentioning Robin Williams is a proof of concept (he is not that old, at least younger than me).
Cheers

Henning

The guy that said led zeppelin's smoke on the water is wrong, its from deep purple.
