Where have you been?

by Volker Weber

I just had to think about all the places I have been to. First I thought they were not too many. Then I started to put a list together:

I have travelled to Austria, Belgium, California, Connecticut, Croatia, Denmark, District of Columbia, England, Finland, Florida, France, Georgia, Greece, Indiana, Italy, Louisiana, Luxembourg, Massachusetts, Mexico, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Netherlands, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tennessee and Texas.

Countries I still need to go to are Canada, Ireland, Norway, Scotland, Sweden. I may be one of the few germans who have never been to Spain. I also was never in Africa, Asia, Australia or South America.

That is a nice excercise; I've just counted a total of 62 countries and U.S. states that I've been in since I was born in '62. No kidding. If you travel to Asia, start off in Singapore.

Hm, let's see if I can beat that: Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Czech, Hungary, Faroe Islands, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Mexico, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Utah and England/Germany (which one counts for a German living in England?).

That's only 23. And I haven't been to Spain either.

Of the United States I've seen so far: California, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Texas.

For the Rest of the World my memories say: Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, England, France, Greece, Hungary, The Netherlands, Italy, Kuweit, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand.

So, yes, I've been to Spain :)

No one so far who can join the TCC ;-) Their statute: Membership in the Travelers' Century Club (TCC) is limited to those travelers who have visited one hundred or more countries of the world. It was first organized in Los Angeles in 1954 by a group of the world's most widely traveled people.

Is it cheating to be from the United States, and to have visited about 30 of the individual states?

You're all way ahead of me on the number of countries. I've been to the U.S. (obviously), Germany, Sweden, England, Israel, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Bermuda, and Canada. What a sorry looking list, compared to you guys...
