Surprise: Apple still does hardware

by Volker Weber

Apple, as widely rumored last week, upgrades both the iBook and the PowerBook line. The PowerBooks are cheaper, have a speed bump and 802.11g WLAN across the entire portfolio. The 17" model is considerably cheaper than the older one, but now has the same specs as the highest 15" model. The iBooks get a speed bump and more base memory. For the first time, the DVD-burner is an option (14" only).

nice headline... ;)

I think these constitue a reasonable interim update... yes, people have been clamouring for G5 laptops from Apple, but one has to be realistic: a decent laptop with that processor needs to solve a lot of issues — at a reasonable price-point — so I’m not holding my breath on that front.

To have the baby of the line running at 1GHz on a G4 with Panther and a combo drive, for just under £800, well, that’s a fine machine :o)
