Lucy Reloaded

I performed major heart surgery on Lucy today. The disk was dying and I got her a 300 GB replacement for the original 80 GB drive. If you want to change the drive inside an iMac G4, you have to take the whole base apart. This is no small feat. Once I had the base open, I also replaced the internal 256 MB memory chip with a 512 MB one. This brings total memory now to 1 GB.

A fresh install of Tiger with a huge update to X.4.4 now has her screaming like new.

I did a hard drive and DVD install in my G4 iMac last weekend as well. Excellent guidance from xlr8yourmac. Did you opt for master/slave or cable select? I'm wondering because the iMac is now having wake-from-sleep issues.

The old drive had master selected, so I selected that as well on the new one. No issues here.

Lucy looks good, considering she just had major heart surgery.

Wow, thanks! My G4 iMac has been dying a slow death as well and I've looked all over for pointers on how to repair and upgrade it.

Very timely!!!!!
