Use Technorati as a blogroll
by Volker Weber
Since Cem mentioned the Top 100 Favorited Blogs on Technorati yesterday, 75 people have added vowe.net to their favorites. Thanks a lot. Let's preserve this chart position with a screen shot, since it is not going to stay there. :-)
Look to the right and you should see a new graphic in the sidebar, that let's visitor add vowe.net to their favorites. If you are a regular reader of this site, I'd suggest you open an account on Technorati and build your own list of favorite blogs. Cem uses the service as his blogroll.
This ecosystem does not only consist of the A-listers. Other blogs should be represented there as well. This is a good time to make your reading habits public. Just a few people can make a difference.
Paul Stamatiou has a nice way to ask for more "votes":
Hopefully with your help we can beat out Robert Scoble, who has the #1 spot with 123 favorites. Mr. Scoble works for Microsoft… we don’t like Microsoft do we? :-)

Your now at 8 - quick go take a screen shot :-)
Scoble has been beat by Boing Boing somewhen last night. I can live with that #1 :-)
As long as Scoble isn't #1, I'm happy.
I have no problem, if Scoble is #1. He had a lot of readers even before he joined Microsoft. He also seems to be a nice guy. But I believe that boingboing is most likely the real #1.
Interestingly enough the process of signing up at Technorati doesn't even require a real email adress. Entering the Top 100 "Most favourited blogs" is currently fairly low at 14.
This might be seducing people to add a couple of fake "favourite votes" using newly created accounts and proxies. It will take some time for this list to be really meaningful, but I guess the entry level will rise automatically.
As a reader, yes, you could create more than one account. But that would hardly serve the purpose of Technorati. As a publisher, yes, you could do the same, but then again, you might better spend your time writing interesting stories and tag them with appropriate tags. Would work much better.
This is the early days of this chart. 68 votes at this minute is good to keep you at #8. Soon it won't even put you on the first page.
Volker, we're #6 now. But this outsider passed us all ... ;)
Maybe it's time for you to start a myspace presence. :-)
WTF? ... LOL!
I don't think it is due to MySpace but the phenomenon I described in my comment yesterday. The current #1 and #2 are just blogs with just a couple of dozen entries, imho far too less to really have a huge readership that would explain being added to favourites by more people than Boing Boing or vowe.
Apparently there is a method called like "Technorati Rank Optimization (TRO)" if I examine the current list of Top 100 Favorited Blogs ;)
There are some misplaced blogs on the list. I wonder how Technorati will deal with it.
If Google's behaviour in such cases was anything that could apply to Technorati too, I'd say TRO is a pretty good way to get your blog banned for life.
