Bill watching his slides

Look at the body language.

Seems like MS has finally made a big step ahead with their user interface:

They added drapes to Windows.

I think its just fear - fear that this latest demo will crash, that his slides will disappear.

Its long term fear built up with using badly-written MS products.

I don´t see fear. I just see a little boy, curious, shy, embarrased, playing with his fingers, unsure what happens next. This is the richest man in the world?

he seems to be fragile. or ill.
or he just sees the slides for the first time.

I think he just holds something like a neat device in his hand, nothing else. In my opinion to correctly interpret someones body language you have to observe a _sequence_ of pictures. Otherwise its like interpreting a book by just reading one word out of it.

Click on the photo and go left from there.

... and when for heaven's sake will that man spend a few bucks for some style consultant?

In all those years I rarely have seen this man wear something that would match him ... in that respect he might want to look out for his enemy in the Oracle office.

I can't imagine that noone has ever told him ...

and people complain about Steve Jobs???

Why would he? He is Bill Gates. He can come in his pyjamas. But his presentation style is awful, and has always been.

This one is nice, too.

The "closed" body language + overwhelmingly "beige" clothing. Hmm...

A typical case of PPT vs. Keynote.
I wouldn't be relaxed when presenting Powerpoint slides, too. ;-)

@Stefan, I think his geeky image is carefully maintained and manufactured. Who would hate the products of such a genial man?

I think that this goes along nicely with the discussion:

I think you can still see the excitement in his eyes.

After all these years. After being the richest man in the world (who could care less).

No matter what they say to him ... no matter if we like MS or not ... no matter what happens ... no matter how rich he is.

Still excited to see his own presentation of something new.

This is not a metter of I like Bill Gates or I don't like Bill Gates, just take a step back and think about it. Still moving on and still working away after bein slottered in media times and times again.

...ich hoffe nicht, dass unser Bill zukünftig auf allen Bluescreens drauf ist...

I recognize pure fear. And... Wait... Yes! No question, he's simply praying! Actually not that bad idea if you need to handle Windows®.
Martin@PowerBookG4 :-)

@Greg- very good article. It'll be interesting to see if the web starts to pass them by or if they can come up with something to get a stranglehold-
