BlackBerry Connect for the Palm Treo 650 available
by Volker Weber
Joint Press Release:
Singapore and Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, 12 April 2006 – SingTel, Palm Inc. and Research In Motion today announced the first availability of BlackBerry Connect for the Palm Treo 650 smartphone. ... The BlackBerry Connect functionality is available today for existing and new SingTel Treo 650 customers through SingTel business representatives.
So who knows any Singtel business representatives? ;-)
What I can find out so far is that it only seems to work with BES and Domino or Exchange, not with Groupwise or BIS. Pushmail, plus calendar, plus remote address lookup but not address book. Palm says:
Certain BlackBerry Connect features not supported, including BlackBerry Internet Service. Available for use with Treo 650 smartphones with approved mobile service providers only.
Setup and User Guide available as PDF.
It looks like I don't have to wait for this software to come out since it is pretty useless for me. What a pity, Palm.
Update: A little birdie tells me: Blackberry Connect is not available for GPRS devices, only CDMA devices at the moment. I find this highly unlikely since Singtel sells the GSM/GPRS Treo.

Know a few. What do you want me to do?
:-) stw
You could ask one of them for Blackberry Connect. :-)
Another order from me! Or is there a sync solution between Mac OS X and a Treo 650?
Sorry, a sync solution between Lotus Notes and a Treo 650 under Mac OS X.
Yves, no there isn't. And as I found out, BB Connect for Palm OS needs a Windows client software to set up and run. Plus, your address book is only synced over the wire:
Unlike your email messagesand Calendar events, newcontacts on the server are not pushed to your smartphone, and new contacts on your smartphone are not reconciled with the server. Instead, yousynchronise contacts with Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes on your computer.
Since this software is only available for Windows, you are SOL.
I wonder why the Treo 650 BB Connect client can't work with BIS. Does anyone have a technical explanation for this limitation?
All current BB Connect devices need a Windows box to setup and only support calendar and email for wireless sync, everything else needs to be synchronized using a cable.
None of the BlackBerry Connect devices work with Groupwise, for some reason nobody develops the Windows client software to support Groupwise. Maybe the market for BB Connect for Groupwise is too small and therefore not worth to develop the client application? I think we'll have to wait for BB Connect device with full BES 4.x support before BB Connect devices can work with Groupwise.
I would be interested in testing the BB Connect client for Treo 650, too :)
I am using BB Connect on a Nokia 9300 and never used a cable or a Windows machine.
It installs from one .SIS file downloaded with the web browser or sent via Bluetooth file exchange. And it syncs data via iSync over Bluetooth.
>I am using BB Connect on a Nokia 9300 and never used a cable or a Windows machine.
Sorry, forget to mention: The limitation applies only to BES users.
Volker, there is a Mac OS X product available. Kissworks's LipSync. IMHO, it's a little cumbersome to install and from what I read the technical/customer support is not very good, and the software a little buggy. But a demo version is available from the Web site :

That is an understatement. I tried to request a key for the software twice, and then gave up two years ago.
If you go to Palm Singapore's website, you can download the BB Connect for Palm software for free. You will be required to enter your Treo's serial number though.
