Printing from iTunes

by Volker Weber

I hardly ever use paper, so today was the first time I printed from iTunes. The results are amazing. If you have never looked at this feature, do try.

Cool, it even prints CD-Booklets. Why did I bother making them myself up to now?

The thing that bugs me about iTunes' printing is that it will print lovely CD booklets, but they're not designed for any particular type of pre-made stock (Avery, etc.) - are you supposed to trim them by hand? If they're going to be stubborn about only printing them in one layout, they could at least provide an option to order pre-perforated cardstock (overpriced, of course) that would line up with it.

Geez, sometimes the most obvious indeed is the least thought about.

Hmm, but aren't music CDs obsolete at all? I mean everybody is taking care of getting stuff converted into digital formats so it seems a bit weird to me to burn CDs and to get hardcopy booklets for it. Well, there are still many audio players, e.g. in cars, that do not accept digital formats such as MP3 but why is a (colored) print out of the booklet needed for this purpose?

I enjoy taking my powerbook to (non public) parties and have my friends pick the songs. Now that I can easily print out a list of what I have this is going to be even more interesting for everyone.

I use it a lot. When I mixed my eldest son’s first album (!) from Garageband down into iTunes, I was then able to apply a cover image to the tracks and then print off a basic CD insert. He was delighted :o)

I used the CD booklet printing feature for my Lotusphere CD. :D

Three things I wish for though....

Cuztomization of the cover art....for your CD cover, it makes a mosaic from the covers that you have in your music. Sometimes the results are interesting. It gets creative with sizes when you don't have a number of tracks that easily gets divided into a square grid. It would be nice to pick what images go where.

The previously mentioned pre-pade cardstock if I want something that looks "nicer."

Disc labels. Again, fitting the pre-made sheets of labels.

hey im not the most computer savvy guy but i did not know that itunes can print cd booklets. how do you activate this feature? is it only with purchased items? thanks.
