Amazing

If his guitar was fretless then I would say amazing :-)

Cem, exactly my thoughts. :-)

Carl, I asked an expert before posting. Here is his answer:

Yes, he's really playing it, and if he's as young as he looks, he's really talented beyond his years. The violin like sound in the beginning is done with a volume pedal he's controlling with his foot. He's got quite a bagful of techniques for someone so young. Most of them are "classical metal" techniques, where you don't pick every note but "hammer" it with your left hand and use your right (picking) hand to tap the strings on the frets to make other notes (tapping). He's also pretty good with "sweeping" technique where you brush through the strings in one direction to articulate more widely spaced notes quickly. He'll be way better than me by the time he's my age. :-)

I assume you can do better?

Ah takes me back to the late ’80s, and all the guitar shredders, especially those like Yngwie Malmsteen who did all the pseudo-classical stuff like this. Splendid... :-D

Wow, that is incredible. And yes, he really is doing that.

Is Trans-Siberian Orchestra missing/needing a guitarist?

Greg

I didn't doubt he was doing it.

My comment really is fiddlers snobbery, where this stuff is much much easier when you have frets.

Wow!

The idea is not very unique, though, Pachelbel's theme can be found throughout modern music, e.g. in the works of Aretha Franklin. If this guy is an American arts student, he has definitely run accorss it.

I dug it. Rock on, dude!

Nice! Thanks for posting.

This one's cool, too: Simpsons Theme.

Chris

Well, I'm so envious of the guy's obvious talent, that I have no option but to bitch about the poor lighting in video!

Nice playing. But it is Pachebel's Canon. Once a nice piece. nice, not great. Overplayed beyond belief. Even without radio. Kill me now.

Comment sent in via email:

Zu Deinem Johnny Guitar Watson: das Stück ist gut, aber nicht originell. Das aktuelle Original, das derzeit durch das Web geistert, muss der Taiwanese sein, der am Anfang des Videos zitiert wird ("JohnnyC").

Wenn Du alles zu diesem "Kanon in D-Dur" wissen möchtest, schau mal unter

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Pachelbel

oder

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachelbel%27s_Canon

Auf http://www.jerryc.co.uk/ gibt es eine Seite mit 40 verschiedenen Coverversionen des Stücks, u.a. der "Funtwo", den Du zitierst ....

Bullshit. There is no other guy than this guy.

ich habe ein MP3 davon gefunden:

I do not find this too impressive. I would prefer "Friday night in San Francisco" or, for example, the guitar solo from "Senza una Donna" (Zucchero & Paul Young)...
