Looking for a naked theme
by Volker Weber
No, not naked ladies. A Nokia N70 theme without any decorations, no backgrounds. Just plain white background, black fonts, blue accents. There are hundreds of unusable themes for download, but there is no way to switch them off.
In a futile attempt to create a naked theme, I downloaded a 70++ meg file from Nokia, which installs a theme studio that loads a 300++ meg Java VM. It even lets me create an empty theme, but then I cannot create the .SIS file to install it.
I seem to be the only person on this planet who just wants a readable screen.
Update: David suggests a dark theme (download):

It's not bad at all and goes nicely with the design of the phone, but I still want the opposite (white background) and I like it!

Same here with an E61.
Reading emails is pretty straining on the eyes with all the background noise.
I wonder why I can't just pick a background image. Not funny.
no way... i always use my n70 in my job and need to have clear and clean screen...

Thank you, David. That was already very helpful. Now I only need the opposite of your theme. :-)
Thatīs why I stick to the 9300, using my N90 just for UMTS/GPRS data connection. Although I could use it also for calling purposes and much more (iSync puts Agenda and calendar entries there as well), I, too, donīt approve of the graphics eyecandy already installed for 14-year-olds with rich uncles. I donīt need fallen angels, Pryanka C or soccer stars gazing at me when talking to a client. Ah, yes, and I donīt have the other problem you mentioned, Volker, dropping out of calling capabilities when in UMTS mode. But I had that with the previous SE V800, vodafone branded. The problem in that case was the branding.
Armin, this can be fixed. As David has demonstrated there are better themes.
i just uploaded some new themes ... www.architekturschau.de/n70

The dark theme seems to display my email address clearly enough ;-)
Really? ;-)
Well, not any more - obviously ;-)
David, after using the dark theme for a day I have to say that I really like it. Thanks for also providing the white theme.
