A Wiki in one file

TiddlyWiki

Ben just told me about TiddlyWiki:

Because TiddlyWiki is a single HTML file, you've actually already downloaded the entire software just by viewing this site. If you want to be able to SaveChanges, you can save your own blank TiddlyWiki to your local drive by right clicking on this link to empty.html and selecting 'Save link as...' or 'Save target as...'. You can choose where to save the file, and what to call it (but make sure that it's saved in HTML format and with an HTML extension).

I really like the concept of "tiddlers" content chunks - very useful for "digital notepads", a use case which other wikitools often are not geared towards. A whole ecosystem has developed around TiddlyWiki in the meantime. The Wikipedia page and this older list are good starting points.

Wow, this stuff is awesome! Finding this kind of jewels is one of the things I like about vowe.net!

Great. I was thinking how great it would be to share a Wiki within the local Network without installing it on a server. As it even "supports" Windows and Linux it's just the perfect solutions. Thanks so much! :-)

I use TiddlyWiki just as a kind of Notepad, even as a tool for small documentations. It's small and easy to use. It works very good with Firefox, but I had some problems with IE - it's not that I care about :-)

I like it - why isn't everything like this?

I use TiddlyWiki as a notepad for passwords. I have an encrypted disk image containing the wiki and some of my important files, e.g. SSH-keys. Those files are linked from within the appropriate Tiddlers. The .dmg grows when needed and I have it on an USB memory stick.

I also use TiddlyWiki for now nearly a year. It´s a great tool when you´re not allowed to install any wiki software with permission form the IT department. Power to the people!

There is also a nice adaptation of TiddlyWiki for managing tasks and todo-lists: GTD TiddlyWiki. Another fine tool that stores and manages todo-lists in a single HTML-file is Nextaction.

Ich komme gerade nicht an meine Linkliste, da habe ich hier nach den To-do Tools gesucht :-) und festgestellt, dass der letzte Link in meinem Kommenatr falsch ist. Richtig: Nextaction.
