Nintendo DS Lite: First looks

Ed couriered my Nintendo DS Lite from Chicago to Dublin last week. He brought it to the pub where we met on Thursday, and I almost forgot it in the burger joint where we had a quick dinner after all the restaurants had already closed down. Luckily we were all standing outside for a minute before leaving, so one of the staff brought it out to me.
Back at the hotel I tried Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for the first time. After having three Guinness my score was not to bad: 48 years (exactly my physical age). If I would not have had so many difficulties with the speech recognition, I would have scored even higher. I learned the trick pretty quickly: You have to speak at a low volume to improve recognition.
However, I was expecting better results than that, since I usually score pretty high on brain tests. After training for four days, I just took another test, scoring one minute and five seconds on the color test, 57 seconds on the 1..120 test, and 17/30 on the memory test:
25 years. Wow. :-)

Eine Frage - kann man für Brian Age die Bildausgabe vertikal spiegeln lassen, sprich, das Gerät um 180° drehen und somit die Touchpadeingabe auf die linken Seite verlegen?
Das ist einer der Punkte, der mich momentan vom Kauf eines DS abschreckt - ich bin Linkshänder und ich fürchte, ich werde mit dem Eingabeschema vieler Spiele nicht zurechtkommen. Nur Steuerkreuz und Aktionsknöpfe sind eine Sache - aber mit dem Stift hantieren und das Steuerkreuz auf der linken Seite bedienen wird sicherlich knifflig und extrem gewöhnungsbedürftig.
Ein DS für Linkshänder mit vertauschtem Steuerkreuz/Buttonpanel wäre eine echte Offenbarung...

Ja, Brain Training (Gehirn Jogging) fragt bei jedem Spieler, mit welcher Hand er schreibt, und dreht das Spiel entsprechend.
Auch Metroid lässt sich wenn ich mich richtig erinnere auf Benutzung durch Linkshänder umstellen. Ich denke mal sie versuchen es bei allen Spielen für die so etwas sinnvoll ist zu ermöglichen - für Tetris o.ä. wird es denke ich bei Rechtshänder-Bedienung bleiben...

Freue mich schon auf Freitag, da kommt der Nintendo DS Lite hier zu Lande raus. Kann ich nur jedem empfehlen. Ein nettes Spielzeug.

Ha, unserer soll am Freitag geliefert werden - cross fingers! Und dann schicke ich die beste aller Töchter früh ins Bett, damit der Papa "erst mal die Gebrauchsanweisung studieren kann". :-)

Wir waren gerade heute bei der Nintendo-Ausstellung im Koblenzer Landesmuseum auf der Festung Ehrenbreitstein! Den DS Lite gab es dort noch nicht zum Testen, zumindest nicht heute. Angeblich gibt es noch Aktionstage, wo man wirklich noch das allerallerneuste von Nintendo zu sehen bekommt. Wir waren mit den Donkey (Kong) Bongos am meißten beschäftigt! :-)
