Sony says the battery replacement for Dell and Apple will cost them between 20 and 30 billion Yen. Divide this by 6 million batteries and you get 3333 to 5000 Yen per battery, which is 23 to 34 Euro. This includes shipping batteries, administration and so forth.
If you want to buy a replacement battery, you pay 129 Euro.

Yep - many, many, many years ago I read (while I still lived in the UK), that if you wanted to build a Mini (car) using spare parts bought from the manufacturer, it would cost you about ten times the price of the car in the showroom.
It's not a phoneomenon that is specific to any one industry - spare parts are always a lot more expensive bought separately, rather than embedded in the finished product.
Angesichts der Tatsache, dass die Ersatzteilhersteller alle keine Umsatzrendite von 80 Prozent vorweisen können, solltest Du Dir lieber mal Gedanken machen, wofür das Geld ausgegeben wird, anstatt zu suggerieren, das wäre Abzocke.
Im Zweifel einfach mal eine BWL- oder VWL-Vorlesung an der TUD besuchen (kost ja nix) oder (zum Beispiel) unter http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixkosten lesen. Das ist zwar nicht der einzige Aspekt, aber schon mal ein wesentlicher.
John, when I needed to replace the batteries in my UPS and my scooter, I saw some really big variations in price. If you have standard batteries, it pays to compare offers. In case of a Notebook battery, you are out of luck though.

Okay, vielleicht habe ich etwas übertrieben. Und vielleicht liegt die Wahrheit irgendwo in der Mitte zwischen Fixkosten und Value-based pricing. :)
Aber es muss da doch noch etwas anderes sein als die 23 bis 34 Euro pro Stück, die die Produktion von 6 Millionen zusätzlichen Akkus Sony kostet. Sonst würde Sony in diesem Bereich in der Tat an jedem Akku 100 Euro Gewinn machen. Tun sie aber nicht. 100 Euro sind der Deckungsbeitrag. Und je nach Kostenstruktur hilft Dir das überhaupt gar nichts.

The parts of a laptop battery inside are fairly standard - you can in theory order the cells and replace them yourself. I don't recommend it, but it can be done.
There are after market batteries for most laptops & cell phones.

Andrew: My uncle loves to play with hardware. He has an old laptop with a broken battery. He opened the battery, identified the cells and asked the manufacturer how much to pay for new cells. They wouldn't sell them to him.

zunächst müssen von den 129€ die 16% MWSt. abgezogen werden, dann brauchst Du noch 'ne Groß- und Einzelhandelsmarge. So kommst Du von 129 ganz schnell deutlich unter 100€ als VK Sony, dennoch ist die Marge beträchtlich, denn die Produktionskosten liegen deutlich unter 15€ (Li Ionen Zellen mit Ladezyklenlogik und Gehäuse).
Volkers Hinweis mit Scooter Batterie paßt exakt, denn selbst bei diesen Standardprodukten wie 12V 19 A Batterie gib es diese nette Preisbildungsstragien.
Der Freundliche von BMW nimmt 149€ für die technische gleiche Batterie anstelle von 39€ bei einem Internethändler mit echtem Verkaufsshop und bitte keine Hinweise auf Qualität.
Meine letzten 3 BMW Motorräder haben nach nicht einmal 1,5 Jahren neue Batterien benötigt, ohne Garantie, da "Verschleißteil" und die 39€ Batterie hält nun schon 4 Monate länger.
ABER: Beim Motorrad kann ich nach der Garantie frei wählen, beim Laptop bin ich immer an den Hersteller gebunden, nur dass keiner beim Geräteverkauf sagt, dass der Akku bei beruflicher Nutzung nach 18 Monaten außer Form ist und ein neuer Akku 10% vom Laptopneupreis kostet.
Vielleicht steht in 5 Jahren neben den technischen Spezifikationen (wie bei den Haushaltsgeräten der Energieverbrauch) !! bindend !! der Akkupreis genauso wie bei Druckern der Preis des Verbrauchsmaterials sowie die zu erwartende Nutzungsdauer/Ladezyklen (ipod ist doch auch davon betroffen).
Allein aufgrund Ben's Hinweis (Ersatzpatronen teurer als Gerät) ist das zwingend, weil so unnötig Müll entsteht (was übrigens auf fast alle Farblaserdrucker zutrifft, denn nach 2 Jahren sind schon 3 Farbkartuschen teurer als der zwischenzeitlich gesunkene Neupreis eines technisch besseren Nachfolgeprodukts).

The battery of my privately owned 12" Powerbook died three weeks ago after using it approximately for 18 months and 179 Swiss Francs are sort of hard to cough up for a student. Unfortunately, I don't profit from the exchange program as my battery's number doesn't exactly match.
My lesson learned is that I will never buy a privately owned laptop ever again and restrict myself to desktop computers instead. If I need a laptop, it's my employer's turn to pay for it.
