Navigon Mobile Navigator Java Edition for free

Nice surprise at the Navigon press conference yesterday. Not only are they coming out with a well designed hardware (including the first windshield mount you want to look at) in the summer. They are also making the Java edition of their excellent Mobile Navigator software available for free. You only pay your mobile operator for the data which gets transferred between the server and your mobile phone.
They are currently only supporting a small number of Nokia and SonyEricsson phones, but the selection should grow substantially over the next weeks. They also plan to support the new BlackBerry 8800 with built-in GPS capability.

Hört sich ja interessant an, aber warum gibt es keine generische Version für mobile Java, z.B. als Midlet? Dann könnte ich es auch auf meinem Palm nutzen.
Winziger Dämpfer im Kleingedruckten:
"Mit dem kostenfreien Erwerb der (zeitlich begrenzten) Lizenz für MN 6 haben Sie bereits das Recht erworben überall hin zu navigieren, wo Sie möchten."
Wo sie möchten, schön und gut. Aber solange das "wann" und "wielange" nicht geklärt sind und bevor ich irgendwo in der Pampa ohne Navi dastehe, muss ich eh' auf das klassische Navi zurückgreifen (in meinem Fall ironischerweise ein PDA mit Navigon MN|4-Software :-))
Mark, die zeitliche Befristung würde mich nicht besonders sorgen. Irgendwie muss man verhindern, dass der Freibiertrinker einen lebenslangen Anspruch anmelden kann.
Dirk, ein kompetenter Herr von Palm hat mir gestern erzählt, dass sie mit Navigon zusammenarbeiten. Ich würde damit rechnen, dass das in Zukunft auch auf dem Palm OS läuft.
