Will DRM Die Today?
by Volker Weber
The Wall Street Journal reports that EMI will announce today that a significant portion of EMI’s catalog will be sold online without any DRM. EMI is the third largest music label after Universal and Sony.
Michael Arrington of TechCrunch comments:
If EMI does in fact announce that they will sell music without DRM, Jobs is going to get most or all of the credit. If sales increase, expect the other three big music labels to join as well. And April 2, 2007 will be a day music fans remember forever.
Repeat after me: DRM is bad for the customer

Wow! That would definitely be a day to remember.
Let's see how they measure "significant portion".
And let's see if they will charge us with an additional in order to get uncrippled music. :-)
Insert a 'fee' somewhere above... :-/
"Will DRM die today?"
No.
We may get non-crippled music, but we'll still have crippled films and we'll still have Vista with protection for "premium content" at its core.
Actually yes: The dying has started DRM Free Download
However I will never spend 1,29 Euro (probably they'll calculate 1:1) on ONE song. Luckily there's still ebay where you can buy codes and end up at about 25 Cent per song - that's mor than fair. I would spend up to 50 Cent, but that's my personal limit for a song even withourt DRM an with better encoding.
Sehr schön, das macht schon mal Freude. =)
