BlackBerry Internet Service upgraded
by Volker Weber
All German carriers have upgraded their BlackBerry Internet Service to 2.3. You can find information about this release here .
You need to resend your service books from BIS to your device. The biggest change for me is that my BlackBerry can now play .WAV files received from my Universal Messaging Service.
You will also find a new service book called CICAL which is typically used for calendar synchronization via BlackBerry Enterprise Service. My CICAL service book however is attached to my GMail account. Would be awfully nice, if RIM would provide calendar sync with Google Calendar, wouldn't it? However there is no other clue that this could become available.

I understand that Y! and Gmail are available as push messaging services with 2.3. I read about it here two weeks ago:

With the latest BES update you can listen to MP3 attachments too.
Chris, indeed you can.
Y! and GMail has been available as push messaging before. My GMails had been delivered instantly with the prior BIS version.
I always thought my GMail has been fairly instant for a while. Perhaps they're modifying it more? Google calendar sync would be really slick too...
I think GMail pinged RIM so they that knew when to poll. Now they don't need POP access anymore.
Still, I do not see any advantage in downloading e-mail messages on the BIS instead of forwarding them from the source account (even it that is GMail or Yahoo Mail).
So, why are you guys using the download feature?

Sync google cal with blackberry -->http://www.gcalsync.com/
I am afraid, that is not good enough yet:
GCalSync is still in its early stages, so expect some rough edges. Known limitations:
* If an event has been changed on the phone, the changes will not be uploaded to Google Calendar
* Reminders not supported
* Recurring events are treated as multiple events
