US opposes G8 climate control

by Volker Weber

US has "fundamental" concerns at German plans to curb G8 emissions, a leaked document shows.

Those evil G8 emissions. CO2 is bad.. but G8.. G8 is a really harmful substance that does not need to get emitted. :-)

s/G8/greenhouse gas/g

after Daimler failed to destroy the american automobile industry by taking over Chrysler, it´s now Mrs Merkels turn, isn´t it?

(please mark the sarkasm in my words, any comments trying to take this seriously will be deliberately ignored :-))

Hey, you can do links on vowe.net! ;o)

Chris’ link

My views lean considerably more to the left than those of Mr. Whisonant, no question. And I don’t really regard that linked article as being a good justification for the US position when it comes to action over global warming etc., However, I do agree that the fuss around greenhouse gases, emissions, being good global citizens, and so on and so forth is getting a little out of hand.

That mankind uses stuff which contributes to global warming is probably fairly clear (although you will find scientists who will argue that point). That we alone are inexorably leading the planet into armageddon is less clear.

The earth has gone through these climate changes before, some well in advance of any man picking up a rock to make a hammer.

I agree with the idea of trying to clean up our act, but I don’t agree with the mass hysteria around it, nor do I agree with how some political movements and “holier-than-thou” characters have taken these issues to a whole new level.

The issue is far more complex than anyone cares to admit: we don’t really know the full story behind global warming; putting the phenomenon down to emissions and nothing more does not help the cause of gaining this understanding.
