Can you turn Office 2004 Test Drive into the full version by entering your serial?
by Volker Weber
Ute's sister just bought a MacBook. She also bought Microsoft Office 2004, but I told her to just use the installed test drive and register it with her Office key. That may have been a bad advice since I have no idea where you can enter the number. My regular install asked me for it, but I cannot find a way to enter it into the test drive version.
Is is at all possible to register the test drive version or do you have to install Office again?

I don't know if one can enter the serial number into the test drive. But installing is very easy: Just drag the Office 2004 folder onto the disk (and delete the test drive!).
The regular Office 2004 can be re-registered after deleting the invisible file "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/OfficePID". Perhaps this will work also with the demo.
Iirc, MS-Office 2004 will just ask you to enter the licence number when the trial period is over.
How to get rid of your license key, officially:
1. Disconnect your computer from network by removing the cable or turning off AirPort.
2. Run '$OFFICE2004/AdditionalTools/Remove Office/Remove Office.app'.
3. To change the "Remove Office" button's default behaviour (removing everything), press (and hold) the 'Alt'-key. Something like [theButton setAction:@selector(removeKeyOnly)]; happens.
4. Trigger the button.
5. Reconnect your network.
6. Start up Word to re-enter your key.
Dunno, if this applies to the Test Drive, too...
Installling instructions of Office tell you to delete the TestDriver by dragging the TestDrive folder to the trash and empty the trash. Now install the offcial version from the disk. ;-)

Ah now I remember. It told my that my test drive version had expired and that I should click on "Remove" or do something else I just can't remember anymore for I found the "Remove" button a bit too tempting to not use it ;)
