Lotus Quickr and Lotus Connections are gold
by Volker Weber
Both Quickr and Connections went gold and can be downloaded from Partnerworld and Passport. Quickr is available as "Services" for Domino and Portal. The quick installation guide is quite funny since it leaves out a huge part of the flow diagram where you install Portal.

Quickr installs as a "portal server" itself, not on top of one. So in effect you do not have a WebSphere Portal server on WAS, you have a Quickr server on WAS. It's a little more streamlined install, reminiscent of WSE install which was easy. There are more decisions about infrastructure, LDAP, etc. to make and more products to install if you don't want the base install.
The bad news here is that the Quickr portal server is not on top of another portal server, for both licensing and technical reasons. Meaning it's another box if you already have Portal.

Sigh....
As I am learning about Portal... its VERY rare when multiple portal based products can run on the same box...
Wish I could find a usable demo Quickr site somewhere.
Does anyone know if this is actually Quickplace 8? - i.e. licenses for Quickplace will be upgradable to licenses for Quickr assuming there is a valid maintenance contract in place.
My understanding is that Quickplace maintenance allows you to upgrade to to Quickr 8. Since Quickr supposedly is more expensive than Quickplace, maintenance may be more expensive when you you renew.
Hi Andy, Quickr is much more than just "the next release of QuickPlace. Please take a look at the Quickr web site to read about the features. As for entitlement, as per the press release: "Licensed Lotus QuickPlace customers will be entitled to the standard edition of Lotus Quickr software at no additional charge.". As for a demo, you can watch the flash demo, or sign up for an account in the Lotus Greenhouse. I hope that helps. Alan
Are you sure it's not possible to install multiple of these on the same server? With WebSphere Portal it definitely is possible and you don't require another box.
Depending on the size of the "box" this might or might not be an issue :-)
If i want to use Domino smtp with Quickr for Websphere portal. What should i do?
