Google Sites: bringing it all together

by Volker Weber

Meet Google Sites, the newest addition to the Google Apps product suite. It was designed to allow you to easily create a network of sites and share them with whomever you choose. Google Sites lets you pull together information from across Google Apps by embedding documents, spreadsheets, presentations, videos, and calendars in your sites.

This is not a general CMS replacement, Sites is focused on team information sharing. It's like a Wiki, but you have more control over the layout and navigation and you organize your pages in a hierarchical structure. The integration of calendars, tables, etc. is a big plus.

Looks useful.

Looks like Quickr.

It took me two minutes to read what google writes about the app. It took me just as long to download the flash presentation for Quickr, but it was useless. How do I find out what Quickr does? I give up.

As most of my articles roll off the front page rather quickly, I am making an archive of previous posts available here. You can also use the handy search box at the top of the page if you are looking for something particular.

Systems Architecture

This site runs on an Apache web server on top of the Linux operating system. The content is managed with MovableType which is implemented in Perl. Last but not least the HTML code your browser sees is put together with PHP.
