Good developer, bad artist?

by Volker Weber

I often see good programs, but with a design that sucks. Designing icons and logos require a very different skillset. Why not outsource it? Mariano has done so with the icon for NewsRob.

From first inspection the ratios look wrong.
In this example

a number of people have done a ton of work but only one will win 300 USD. That does not seem healthy and sustainable.

Another tip is to use artist sites. For example, my good chum and colleague Mark Myers has been on deviantart.com for some time, and through that has built up a small contact list of really good artists and graphic designers to whom he outsources work.
