The new Facebook app for the Palm Pre is rather nice

Agreed. I've configured the messaging app to connect to Facebook chat plus the video edit and upload to Facebook / Youtube from the last WebOS update results in great fun. And I really like the Palm approach to ask FB app users to weighten which feature to implement next.

How did you connect the messaging app to Facebook chat?

There's a patch for that too.
