How to install Symbian Anna now

by Volker Weber

There is a trick. Don't listen to what Nokia says. Do not try an update Over The Air. Do not try an update with Ovi Suite. Instead use Nokia Software Updater beta from betalabs.nokia.com. Once you have installed the update, go into Software Update on the devices and install Symbian Anna update 1/2 and Symbian Anna update 2/2. These are the applications that go with the operating system. There is also a new version of Social to install.

Yeah, just found that out myself, but not without problems. I would not recommend 'end-users' to try this route :(

Ah, I did a OVI Anna update after the software updater first, so the procedure was:
1. Software updater Anna
2. Ovi suite Anna update
3. Device Anna update
pfffff....

I think I'm missing something. This software doesn't find the Anna update.

And it actually says at
http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-software-updater/download_and_installation

"Known Issues in NSU 3.0.383

Automatic device SW checker does not work"

Im not sure how you got this working.

Daniel, wie lautet Dein Product Code? *#0000# im Dialer.

Worked fine for me with OVI-Suite. BUT then there are two other updates you have to do, they come not as device formware update (like Firmware 22 (aka Anna)), but in 'Programs' -> 'SW-Updates'. It took until yesterday evening for the second to appear.

Man, this must have been complicated to get this working... I can only assume how f-ed up Symbian is, if an update like this has to be done in three stages.

I installed Anna yesterday without any problems over the air. Just *0000# -> Check for updates -> Install, it took about ten minutes including the reboot. Product code is 0599281, Model N8-00, Type RM-596.
