Google Maps vs HERE Maps

by Volker Weber

As I was updating my HERE Maps on the Lumia for offline use in New York (and Germany), somebody said that Google Maps on his Android does the same. That lead me to quickly check out the area on both maps. No comparison. Not by the looks of it, and certainly not by features.

Well, it always depends on the area. Yes, for your example, HERE maps is much more detailed. In some cities in Germany, it is better in the downtown area is also more detailed, but the outskirts are lacking compared to Google Maps. And if you look at Japan, then HERE maps is a joke, showing only rough lines for the larger roads. Even in Tokyo there isn't any detail whatsoever.

But yeah, for New York it clearly shows what should be expected from a modern map solution.

Everybody does San Francisco really well. And HERE is unbeatable in Berlin, with live data for public transportation.

Ich finde es wird Zeit das Nokia ein Windows RT Tablet rausbringt, damit es mal ein par vernünftige RT Apps gibt. Here mit installierbaren Karten, offline Navi, etc. wäre schon ein Anfang.
