Meh! people now expect immediate response. If they're using Domino under the hood for registration, there is a way to immediately authenticate new users without "hurting" the server whatsoever,(ie no use of "sh nlcache reset") we do it for our mobile demo systems. If they're using Domino, it's a simple caching delay problem.... Happy to share if anyone is interested.
