Do not hit "Agree" on WhatsApp
by Volker Weber
I know, we are all trained to just accept any changes in ToCs. But this time, don't. Instead, tap on the "Read more ..." at the bottom of the page. It will take you to another page, and there at the bottom is a switch. Toggle it from 1 to 0. It should not be green before you agree.
Too late, you say? Already hit that Agree button? Follow the steps under Option 2.

You had me worried there for a moment, because I tapped on agree, but also found the "share my information" setting afterwards.*Phew*
I have stopped using WhatsApp - and all the other chat/message apps. There are just too many for me to keep checking. My life now is Email, SMS & iMessage. And Twitter and vowe.net.
Is that TOU change supposed to come with an App update ? I never had this screen on my iphone and there is no update available via App Store.
current Whats App version is 2.16.9 in iTunes is also the one that is on my device.
Good things come to those who wait.
There is no opt out. Even if you opt out, Facebook will get the data. Read the following in the link you mentioned in option 2:
The Facebook family of companies will still receive and use this information for other purposes such as improving infrastructure and delivery systems, understanding how our services or theirs are used, securing systems, and fighting spam, abuse, or infringement activities.
René, that is telemetry. If you negate cloud-based services the right to gather telemetry, we might as well burn it all down. In good hands, telemetry is the key to software that is focused on what you need. I admit that the TC leaves open whether that data is anonymized or not.
