Nokia N8 as portable HD media player

Having both an iPad and an iPhone I am thoroughly impressed with the N8 as a media player. I have thrown a couple of HD movies on my memory key (here without my keychain) and it has played them without any issues on my Sony flatscreen TV through HDMI. At 1080p no less.

What you need to have with you is the HDMI-to-HDMI-mini connector if your videos are an your N8. And the USB adapter to play anything from an attached thumb drive or hard disk. The N8 has a USB host, so you can simply connect other USB devices.

It will also let you move files in and out of your phone's storage through the on-board file manager. If you have some MP3 files on a thumb drive, you can easily import them to the phone. The same is true for pictures you may have taken with your camera. It's a bit like the camera connection kit for the iPad. Only much more powerful. And it comes included with the N8.

Where do you store all that? The N8 comes with 16 GB of internal memory and it has a microUSB slot that can hold up to an additional 32 GB on SDHC.

100 percent ACK. The possibilities this USB-Host and HDMI give, are nothing less than impressive.

You can also pair a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard at the same time. Add USB-Host and HDMI out, what do you get? Probably the smallest Desktop PC in the world ;) ;)
