New Macbook
by Volker Weber
This is what I am really excited about. I spend a lot of time on my Retina Macbook Pro. This is lighter, smaller, and would provide the same functionality. USB Type C connector for everything. What if that would replace Lightning on all future iPhones and iPads.

This is what I'm excited about too. Too bad my four-year-old model still works so well.
Space grey or silver?
Space grey.
As someone who just came back from walking: Does it play well with my two Thunderbold displays?
Beautiful device, for two reasons I am not quite sure if i will get one...
1. I do not see an adapter from USB-C to Thunderbold (wich I need for my 27'' Display):

2. 13'' is maybe the minimum for me to do 2-4 hours of work at home every day (without an external display)
+1 to Felix. What to do with our thunderbolt displays?!
Also just 1 port for everything? The one ring?! For every USB stick you are supposed to carry adapter?! Even 11' Airbook has 2 USB ports - more than enough.
Waiting for the next gen. Either by then one USB C serves everything or Apple has added a second one. And a 15" version maybe ... anyway, our two MBPs 13"/15" will last some more years.
Amazing, MacBook 12'' is smaller then the current MacBook Air 11''.
With the MacBook 12'' there is (for me) absolutely no reason for an iPad Air...
MacBook 12''
Höhe: 0,35 bis 1,31 cm
Breite: 28,05 cm
Tiefe: 19,65 cm
MacBook Air 11''
Höhe: 0,3 bis 1,7 cm
Breite: 30 cm
Tiefe: 19,2 cm
We have had this discussion before when Apple dropped the floppy drive and then the DVD drive. Some people will need the expansion but most won't. I would be perfectly happy with a Macbook that only connects to power.
If you can now please buy tons of Apple TV to project my presentations? ;-) Did you notice that it is cheaper than the VGA dongle?
Does anyone know how to order a MacBook for pick it up in a store in Boston with german keyboard layout?
I believe you can't.
I really like the fact that they have named the keys with words 'enter' and 'return'. It's going to help remote sessions with my father, that's for sure.
Press the Enter key!
which key?
the Return key?
huh?
The big key on the right with an arrow!
I see seven keys with an arrow on the left...
I am struggling with the single USB-C port. What if I need to quickly read a USB memory stick - I should not have to unplug the laptop from the mains to do so. They really should have added a second port or at least a USB3 connector for now at the other side. For this reason alone I will not buy one.
Now the new 13" Macbook Pro Retina - I can live with this for sure.
This thing runs for hours on end on battery. You can unplug it if you need.
My first Mac was the 12" powerbook. I loved that machine as it seemed to represent maximum 'computer' in the minimum volume (for the time). I've long wished for that combination of computing oomph and form factor to return and it seems now that it has.
Nice.
Nice one.
Could someone of the pros explain to me how a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor can be fast enough for a 12'' notebook when our phones have already processors with 1.5 or even more than 2 GHz?
Don't worry too much about Gigahertz. It's a single technical detail designed my Marketing to lure customers. Android Marketing likes to use cores in addition to Gigahertz.
Thanks, Volker.
@Felix and @Volker: German keyboard layout is available from the drop-down list when configuring your Macbook online (Apple Store U.S.).
The interesting thing about the type C connector is, it can not only draw power from the power brick but from any device that supports USB power delivery (USB-PD). That could be an external drive, monitor, or simply a USB hub (with USB-PD). Pretty sure those devices will be readily available by the end of the year.
The interesting question in the Apple realm is, what happens to Thunderbolt. It's my understanding the next version also supports power delivery up to 100 watts - kind of redundant to USB 3.1. What are the MacBook Pros going to draw their power from?
A piece of brilliant industrial design again I do like a lot. Not a single detail You could leave away without harming functionality.
And: No fan. No noise. No distraction.
Expecting that the new keyboard works well, this could be a very good writer's machine. I wonder if it's powerful enough e.g. for applications requiring some more muscles. Anyway, this is just the first generation of a new line of MacBooks. The first MacBook Air was a bit weak as well.
Whoever goes for it, let us know if you experience problems with the anti-glare coating...
