I looks like in about two weeks' time I will be back in New Orleans after only 21 years and two months. This time for a conference that used to be in Las Vegas (which I hate) and San Francisco (which I really enjoy).

We spent Christmas there about 7 years ago. It sticks in my mind as being the time we discovered that even in America, pretty well everything closes down on Christmas Day - we managed to get one meal in a hotel and drank a bottle of red wine in the evening that we'd bought a day or two before - even McDonalds was closed!
