Fontify your own handwriting

1. Get the Fontifier template sheet and print it.
2. Write your characters on the template using a felt pen.
3. Scan the template and save it in GIF format.
4. Submit the GIF file and get back your font.
5. Install your font for use with all your favourite programs.

It’s quite a cool tool, I was impressed.

Some tips, for what they’re worth (!):

Print the template as big as you can. I found around 135% on A4 was achievable.
Scribe large characters with a thick black pen
Scan the template as a line drawing, or reduce a grey-scale scan to monochrome, as you’ll need this contrast
Rotate the file if necessary so it’s in landscape format
You may need to crop the file as the tool doesn’t like too much white space beyond the grid margins.
Clean the file up a little if necessary; there may be too many artefacts in it, though the tool will tell you if it’s having trouble
