Dell Axim 30. Impressive specs: 624 MHz XScale, WLAN and Bluetooth. Of course riddled with Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition which makes configuration a PITA once again.
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (WM2003SE) has a number of enhancements over WM2003. Amongst them is the ability to rotate the screen. I have mapped this function to one of the hardware buttons so I can rotate it from an application without going to the preferences:
You can now set the font size in order to either show more text on the screen or enhance the readability:
No matter to what size you set the font, the screen is just too small for serious web browsing, in either landscape or portrait mode. However mail reading works just fine, especially in landscape mode:
I wish you could also remove some of the Windows screen decorations in order to give you more screen estate to read the body of the message:
WLAN selection and configuration was pretty much straightforward, once I knew whether one needed to look into "Connections", the Dell WLAN Utility or the Odyssey Client:
I have yet to figure out why I would want the Odyssey client at all. I assume it is required for WPA support and can be discarded if you only need WEP.

ist das Teil aehnlich handlich wie ein Tungsten?
Daten ueber Gewicht sind nicht leicht zu finden
wie liegen die 134 gr in der Hand?

Kenne den iPaq nicht. Ja das Gerät ist handlich, nicht zu schwer, wird lauwarm. Und ich würde den Tungsten bevorzugen. :-)
In jedem Fall ist der Axim sehr flott. Habe ihn gerade heute mittag mal mit einem Siemens Loox und Skymap getestet. Das Laden von Anflugkarten -- also JPEG dekomprimieren -- ging deutlich schneller. Während der Loox eine Sanduhr zeigt, ist der Axim innerhalb eines Wimpernschlags fertig.
Naja der Axim hat leider auch Schattenseiten. Zwar ist Er sehr schnell, allerdings gibts es wohl Probleme mit den Buttom (leichtes lag), dies führt dazu, daß viele beliebte Spiele und Emulatoren (wenn 624Mhz Sinn machen, dann z.b. als GBA Emulator!!!) nur eingeschränkt zu geniessen sind. Weiterhin ist die Auflösung nicht mehr zeitgemäß, gerade jetzt kommen diverse 640x480 PPCs raus.
Windows Mobile zweite Edition ist leider auch nur ein Aufguss, und bietet wenig Neuerungen (Leider).
Übrigens, der mit Abstand beste Browser ist der vom Palm (Sony Clie) bekannte Netfront.
Und WiFiFoFum als WLan Scanner ist glaube ich umsonst und unterstützt (noch nicht getestet) sogar GPS Empfänger. Da kann man dann in bester JamesBond Manier mit einem Radar Bild seinen nächsten HottSpott suchen :-)
Das "lag" kann ich nicht bestätigen. Und die Eignung als Spielekonsole ist mir sowas von wurscht ... :-)
Please take note: PocketPCs in general, and the Axim 30 are officially NOT COOL anymore. My /mother/ just bought one for herself.
