Linux on the Mac mini

For those of you who'd rather use Linux than Mac OS X:
Apple's Mac Mini is something which a lot of Linux users have been waiting for: An inexpensive, readily available PowerPC system in a small, quiet and attractive chassis.
Debian is very popular on Intel i386 compatible systems. Due to the open source nature of the Linux kernel and the Debian operating system, it is possible to build the same software to run on the PowerPC processor found inside the Mac Mini. It's simple to swap your big, noisy old PC for the slim, svelte Mac Mini, and this page aims to show you how to do just this.

warum soll ich mir dieses Spielzeug zulegen, um da LINUX drauf zu installieren ?
Was ist der Sinn ? LINUX läuft auch auf meine alten, ausgemusterten 550er Celeron ... der ist auch flüsterleise und erfüllt seinen Dienst als VCR allemal. Außerdem steht da Teil im Keller, also interessiert mich weder Design noch Lautstärke.
Zu viele Kommentare auf Heise gelesen? Du sollst gar nicht. Das ist eine Information für Leute, die wollen. OK?
Mal abgesehen davon, dass man sich dieses "Spielzeug" auch einfach nur deswegen zulegen kann um sich mal anzusehen, was es an Linux noch zu verbessern gibt. (Ist das eigentlich zwanghaft mit dem Caps Lock bei Namen von Betriebssystemen?)
Du brauchst dringend einen "Achtung es folgt _KEIN_ (Kauf)Befehl:" Banner / Flash Add inkl. Sound / Zappel-Gif.
(bitte Sarkasmus-Anzeiger dazudenken)
Volker, Du warst doch von Ubuntu mal so angetan – bist Du es eigentlich immer noch? Und hast du die PPC-Variante eigentlich mal ausprobiert?
Warum sollte es das nicht mehr geben? :-) PPC habe ich nicht ausprobiert. Ich haue keinesfalls Mac OS X runter, um Linux zu installieren. Eher umgekehrt.
Ich finde die Idee mit den Mac Minis als Server und Linux genial.
Man hat schon gehoert, dass in USA Mac Mini im Hosting Bereich angeboten wird.

Über USB bekommst du einen 2. Netwerkanschluss, wenn du allerdings eh einen Switch hast kannst du dem einen Netzwerkinterface auch 2 IP's zuweisen und alles weitere den Rechner machen lassen.
Ja, unter www.macminicolo.net sind die schön zu Demonstrationszwecken
in einem 19" Schrank drin. Aber warum 2 Interfaces? Ist doch keine
Firewall oder so. DAS kann dann wieder ein schöner 19" G5 oder so
machen :-)
Wie hies es mal so schön zu der Frage warum soll man Linux auf einen
Aplle installieren - weil es halt geht... In diesem Sinne...
