Nico invited me to try mabber.com. This service wants to be a an XMPP server with a web client and a mobile client. You can also use an XMPP client such as iChat. Summary: It was a disaster.

1. It would not accept my registration. Fixed.
2. It would not log me in. Fixed.
3. Web client stalled when adding aim contacts.
4. Web client disconnects from the server.
5. iChat shows different buddies online than web client.
6. Web client throws "unresponsive script" error message in Firefox.
7. Cannot login to website anymore.
8. Cannot remove my account.

Mabber tries to be Web 2.0 with smooth dialogs where you don't need them. That's about it for now. Mabber should feed this baby some more before attempting a beta test.

Sorry, Nico. Please have my account removed. I think I'll stay with Google Talk for all things Jabber.

thanks for your input. the aim import/firefox issue was already in the faq, the other points need to be investigated. your user account has been deleted.

absolut deckungsgleich die gleichen fehler wie bei mir — vor 2 oder 3 wochen …
aber mir glaubt ja keiner wenn ich das sage. hihi.
immerhin durfte ix mich mit dem usernamen „ix“ anmelden. kann man sonstwo fast nirgendwo mehr.

The unresponsive script thing is given in the FAQ ("Enter about:config in your address bar and adjust the seconds for max_script_run_time. 40 ist a good value."). But I didn't notice the FAQ entry at first either. Hopefully we can find a way to fix the error without forcing one to manually edit about:config. That's not user-friendly at all.

nö, felix, das stimmt so nicht. wir haben eine weitere möglichkeit geschaffen, die kontakte aus anderen networks zu importieren. bei uns haben tests gezeigt, dass das gut klappt. wenn das nicht überall der fall ist, müssen wir da eben noch nachbessern.

aber wir freuen uns natürlich, dass dich das mit der ix-anmeldung gefreut hat.

Habt Ihr irgendwelche Verträge mit AOL, Microsoft und Yahoo oder "probiert" Ihr das einfach mal?

erhält man bei dir für den Dienst eine Einladung? Oder gibt es sonst jemanden, den man kurz- oder auch gerne längerfristig als Freund definieren kann ;-)
