Software on my Nokia N70

by Volker Weber

The Nokia N70 is pretty complete with the preloaded software. It comes with a mail client which supports the IMAP Idle command, so your email gets "pushed" when you are online. If you install the memory card you will also find that the N70 has Opera pre-installed, which beats the S60 browser any day. But there are still a few applications I need to install:

What am I missing? A Skype client.

Does the Agile Messenger work over an WAP-Flat from o2?

Samuel Adam, 2006-05-28 20:27

No, it will not. If I force Agile Messenger to use the O2 WAP APN, it does not connect. I have to use the O2 Internet APN.

very sad. Thank you!

Samuel Adam, 2006-05-28 20:51

Actually, I don't think the Surf&Mail pack is a good deal. I'd rather get the 30 MB pack. This should be a lot more useful than the WAP deal.

why?
costs are twice and it's limited to 30MB. I get closer everymonth...
and 100kb every connect is a lot, since my Siemens SX1 doesn't hold the gprs connection and needs to reconnect everytime :(

Volker, have you had a look at the IM+ messenger? It seems to me like a decent alternative to Agile and it supports XMPP. I haven't yet had the time to check it out myself, but it was recommended in the latest c't special issue. It's not for free either though.

Yes, I looked at it, when I wrote about Symbian software last year. At that time, Agile was still free. I think IM+ is a good alternative.

Hi Volker,

what News Reader do you use?

None. Do you?

Hier ist noch was. Das schlägt 007. Oder dem Faß die Krone ins Gesicht. Wie mans sieht. Demnächst brauchen wir Google divorce.

Well, I use the mobile HTML frontend from newsgator. It is very basic, but on the sunny side it works on the same feed subscriptions that I also use with NetNewsWire and the real web frontend. It is really nice that all the different clients can be kept in sync.

The mobile HTML interface is for obvious reasons not available offline though :-(
