48 hours with the Treo 750

by Volker Weber

[continued from here]

I am charging the battery for the third time. Call time about 20 minutes so far. Online as a modem another 20 mins. Microsoft ActiveSync to Vodafone on 24h a day.

I would not leave home without the charger.

Any chance of comparing this one with a 750 without Windows mobile? I like my 650 quite a lot, and I'm hearing that the 750p is very nice. It sounds like some of the issues you're reporting are specific to the push email configuration, but are others due to Windows Mobile? Or is that wishful thinking on my part?

I believe there is no 750p yet. The US site lists a 700p, which I have never seen in Europe so far.

The 750v that I currently have is thinner and lighter, no aerial, screen res of 240x240 (the 650 has 320x320). I suggest you stay with your 650. ;-)

Right, typo, it was the 700p that got pretty good reviews. The Palm OS version of the 750 doesn't exist (yet). I was hoping you might have heard something about a 750 that didn't require Windows Mobile. The 750v seems more like a downgrade than an upgrade to me, but that's mostly because I'm not impressed with Windows Mobile. I hadn't realized they were decreasing the screen resolution, too.

Yeah, I'm keeping my 650. Not much point in "upgrading" to something that doesn't make my life better or easier in any way. Oops, sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a Vista thread... heh...

I've already read that the uptime of Windows Mobile devices is often ridiculous. Never would use that nonsens, therefore I stay with Symbian OS (E61 in my case) or Palm OS devices...

That is a very broad statement. My N70 has a talk time of two hours. It needs to be charged every two days. A Series 60 device.

Any joy getting your 750v to bluetooth pair with the Mac? I'm really struggling with mine, and would appreciate any tips.

Absolutely no problems here, connecting both via Bluetooth. What issues are you having?

That's odd... I've been trying all evening with no luck. The Treo detects the iMac over bluetooth ok. After entering a passcode on the Treo and using the same code when prompted on the Mac, there's a long period of inactivity before the Treo brings up an "Unable to Connect -- The network connection failed or the passkey is incorrect" screen. I'm fresh out of ideas...

Do it the other way around. Let the iMac discover the Treo. The iMac then issues a 6 digit code which you enter on the Treo.

Thanks ever so much, Volker. I did it the other way around as you suggest and it paired on the second attempt. For anyone else who finds this, for some reason I also had to connect via USB and sync up over the cable first before Missing Sync would then connect and synchronise over bluetooth.
