iTunes 7.0.1 available

by Volker Weber

This must have been one of the most anticipated software fixes ever. And Apple is being informative as usual:

iTunes 7.0.1 addresses stability and performance issues with Cover Flow, CD importing, iPod syncing, and more.

And more. Right.

Hopefully they fixed the bug I get where iTunes crashes if I try and view any video (podcast, TV, movie) while downloading anything (purchase, podcast, etc.)

yes, the online update function for example: while a German iTunes 7.0.1 is available my installation states to be the most current...

I still get the 0x000000c5 INVALID_PROCESS_ATTACH_ATTEMPT bluescreen on Windows XP SP2, when clicking around in iTunes.

Hint hint, there is an Microsoft KB entry that may provide some help:
You receive the Stop error "Stop 0x05 (INVALID_PROCESS_ATTACH_ATTEMPT)" in Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003

There must be a reason they updated this 2 year old entry on September 18, 2006... ;-)

Now, after having it posted on vowe.net, I also took the time to test my proposal... ;-)

It seems to do the trick. With KB887742 installed, my iTunes 7.0.1 does not crash anymore.

Hope this helps.

Okay, I got 7.0.1.8 german and it worked (for XP SP2). The memory usage has gone down from 90+x MB to 66+xMB, also the cpu usage is significant lower. But the glorious coverflow doesn't really work. If I make a selection like "Top 199" (billboard charts of the 90ies) the cover presented by coverflow is wrong & different from the cover in the lower left corner.

Before I started the new version I deleted all album cover files but it still doesn't work in that "play with search result" case. In normal playlists it seems to work fine.
In smart playlist it also doesn't work. If I control the song by coverflow something interesting happens. If I click on one album the right song will be played, than I click the next right cover and the played song belongs to the cover but this song comes 50 positions after the previous track. Why?
If the playlist is sorted by album the next shown cover in coverflow means the cover of the next albumtitle not songtitle (even if the albumcovers are different - for samplers I try to use the single covers), so I jump from album "Top 1995" to "Top 1996" instead of the next position within Top 1995!
If I sort the same smart playlist by songtitle the behaviour is completely different, the shown cover doesn't belong to the played song. If I choose a song by coverflow (doubleclick) a complete different song is played.

So I have to live with the sound of "Die Ärzte" and a cover from Culture Beat at leat until the next update or another girl like you & a cover from cranberries.

Update: These problems occure only in playlists which contain at least one title from samplers. The coverflow for my U2 smart playlist works perfect.

Update to the coverflow problem better feature:
itunes saves for one album only one cover (in coverflow), so all songs of one album use the same cover of the first song and not the one from the mp3 file regardless if "part of compilation" is checked or not.
Especially for all single hits I tried to get the single covers to get a felling for the time & cover arts.
This won't work in itunes coverflow as expected (only coverflow).
