Things I like about Skype
by Volker Weber
You drop a file on the chat window and Skype just transfers it. No matter behind what router the other guy sits. Every. Single. Time.

Hei, thanks for that hint!
BTW, don't you experience that skype file transfers are, in general, very, very slow?
An order of magnitude less speed than with iChat, for instance
I get fast transfers if a direct connection can be established, and a slow connection if that is not possible.
Skype has it's own protocol running over TCP port 80 (this port works flawlessly with most NAT routers and Firewalls).
It doesn't matter whether they send audio, text or documents through this line, it's just bits and bytes.
Pieter, you should not talk while sending/receiving a file. The voice connection takes much bandwidth.
@Volker,
I take your word for it but how can you tell if a connection is direct or not and, most of all, do we have any control on that?
@Martin,
you are referring to iChat, I suppose, and yes, Leopard used to perform better in that regards or, at least, be less demanding on the hardware involved into the connection.
das erinnert mich an combots -
da soll das sogar mit max upload gehen
und wenn der andere offline ist ;)
immer noch nicht wirklich public?
gee
Peter, no I was referring to Skype.
Pierre, brauchst du eine Einladung für Combots? Schick mir einfach 'ne Email!
