Also, mit einem Datum vom 12.9.2008 (in Worten: zweitausendundACHT) ist der Rückschluss im Titel nicht wirklich nachvollziehbar. Bis dahin kann man das Teil noch kaufen.
Schlecht gelesen. Zu diesem Datum endet der Support. In vier Wochen endet bereits die Vermarktung. Dann kann man es nicht mehr kaufen.
Is that all Workplace Messaging or just that version? Is that the only version out there?
What do the poor customers that deployed it do now? Rip and Replace with something else? God, imagine if they were the same people who finally upgraded their cc:Mail servers and then this...
Carl, there is no version mentioned. Which means "all of Workplace Messaging". As for customers, are there any at all?
Yeah I just saw the Workplace Messaging home page has changed too...
I don't beleive any customers went past trials, but I could be wrong. i am pretty sure there are no Workplace IM customers, I wonder when they will announce that death.
How much do we estimate this whole Workplace thing cost IBM? half a billion? It has to be in the hundreds of millions just by the amount of people they had working on it. Imagine if that same investment had been maintained in Domino, Sametime and Quickplace. I think the term might have been "SharePoint what?" I guess Amy Wohl hit the mark with her advice on this product as she did on her advice around eSuite...
I guess my unscientific poll wasn't so wrong after all...
As one poll closes another one opens
Ah I love reading old blog posts...
I've been playing with Workplace
What's the most insulting headline you could throw at a Loti?
Interesting observations at the Collaboration UK meeting
This is all good news though, it means that IBM can be focused again, well for a year or so until the next MBA comes in with their new slides and presents a new strategy to management :-)
There are some live sites in Asia with >10k Workplace Messaging users. I guess otherwise support would be shorter.
:-) stw
Are there any news on Workplace Services Express so far ?
Look at the bright side, we won't be subjected to any Workplace marketing pitch at Lotusphere '07. The bad news is that it will be replaced by some flavor of Webshpere. We attempted to pilot Workplace and it simply did not work, even with three full days of on-site support from IBM.
@Heiko re WSE, there is a session at Lotusphere covering roadmap there. It's not listed on the Lotusphere website yet ... reason being I'm not sure the product announcement has been made. I can check into this.
@Carl - now you have the plotline for my book :-)
@Ed if it's based on anything I've said it will be a short book with lots of grammatical and spelling errors :-)
I have a license on maintenance and recently paid my yearly renewal fee of 5,88 Euros. So at least I can confirm 1 active customer on maintenance for Messaging Express in Europe.
@Heiko: As far as my informations are correct there will be a "Next WSE" based on Websphere Portal 6, somewhere in the first or second quarter next year.
The Workplace stuff always confused me. I recall Mike Rhodin talking about Workplace at Lotusphere 2006 and a slide flashed up that said Workplace had 4000 customers. I'm not sure if that was Workplace Collaboration Services, Workplace Collaboration Services Express, Workplace Messaging, or something else entirely.
@henning: there you go. a full DWA licence for a mere €5,88 - Thats cheep. I think, I'll buy a bunch of them as long as they are hot!
Will there be a "funeral party" at Lotus/IBM ? ;-)))
@Hynek,
If there is a party you may dress accordingly by wearing one of these.
Time for new T-Shirt :-)
