New poll: Who benefits from DRM
by Volker Weber
This is not going to be an easy one. Think before you vote. Who benefits from DRM (Digital Rights Management)?
- The artist
- The customer
- The music industry
- The vendor (Apple/Microsoft)
- Nobody

Well, the music industry and the vendor surely do make profits with it, but they would make even more profits if they sold the stuff DRM-free, so Nobody is the correct answer.
And I thought you worked in science. Tsk.
According to this Slashdot story it would appear to be the vendors.
For sure, these are not going to be the customers, but suppose that probably nobody...
Law enforcers ???
Phillip, as much as I can follow you on this, I don't think vowe puts out polls where there is a "correct answer". It's not a quizz you do to test students here ;-)
Yeah, I think the lawyers are the only ones to really benefit in the long run. A particular vendor may be benefiting now due to them being in a dominant position, but DRM doesn't benefit vendors in general any more than any other monopolistic device.
The correct answer is the software developers who get giant outsource contracts to write and continue to update the software and firmware to enforce DRM.
Ragnar, I always thought we're Volker's students. ;-)
