GMX-Jabber mit eigener Domain nutzen

Der von GMX zur CeBIT vorgestellte Multimessenger ist ein Jabber-Dienst, der sich für alle Mailaccounts von 1&1, GMX und Web.de nutzen lassen soll. Wie sich jetzt herausstellt, kann der Server darüber hinaus auch mit den bei 1&1 gehosteten Domains genutzt werden. Jedes von 1&1 gehostete POP3- oder IMAP-Postfach hat schließlich auch ein passendes Passwort und wird auf der gleichen Mailinfrastruktur betrieben. Diese Datenbank kann man nutzen, um sich unter seiner eigenen Mail-Adresse dort anzumelden.
Bei vielen Jabber-Clients reicht es, die Mailadresse und das Passwort anzugeben. Per DNS stellt der Client dann fest, welches der passende Jabber-Server für diese Domain ist und meldet sich dort an. Jabber-Clients, die das nicht beherrschen, z.B. das bei Mac OS X mitgelieferte iChat benötigen zusätzliche die Server-Adresse gmx.net.

Scheint ja zu funktionieren.
Mit Adium X auf Mac OS X funktioniert es prima.
coole Sache. Habe es gleich ausprobiert und es ging sofort.
Die Anwendungen Gaim & Meebo und mein 1&1 Account gingen sofort los.
Machen die dazu irgendow Werbung, ist das offiziell?
@Joachim: habe nachgeschaut: in 1&1 control center ist das unter 1&1 Messenger beschrieben.
