jamendo is a new model for artists to promote, publish, and be paid for their music.

There is also magnatune, which shortcuts the traditional publishing process. You pay what you think the music is worth and the artist gets a much bigger cut than they would from a record company...
There are nice Jamendo and Magnatune plugins for Rhythmbox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythmbox).
If it only would fit to my taste of music :-(
That (and maybe we7.com) is more like it.....
