Notes and Domino 8 on Ubuntu?

by Volker Weber

Has anybody tried installing Notes or Domino 8 on Ubuntu? If you have, let me know.

Jack Dausman certainly has, see his blog entry, "Notes Domino 8 on Ubuntu is Phenomenal"

I can confirm Jack Dausman's blog posting. I successfully installed Notes Client 8 beta 3 on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) a couple of months ago. I had to disable Beryl Window Manager during installation. Because of performance reasons, I went back to a Notes 7 client running under Wine. Not sure, if the poor performance was due to debug code in the beta client, though.

Thank you, Giuseppe. Jack's posting was a bit short on facts.

I have tried Beta 3 on Kubuntu and was very impressed by the functionalty although the installation on Linux was still very bad. Maybe the gold version is better now. I will try the gold version today on OpenSuse.

I can confirm that I have successfully installed Notes Client 8 GOLD Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) this week. I had to disable Beryl Window Manager during installation or you will just see a gray window instead of "first-step".

Emmar, have you adjusted any file permissions or browser settings after the install?

Gee.. I knew jack's posting didn't have the info, but I thought you could at least follow up with him.

Ed, please don't be so sensitive. Every link is a good link.

you might want to return Ubuntu's default shell to dash, especially in a VM:
