New poll: what is Rhodin's heritage?

by Volker Weber

The whack-a-brill thread sparked a new poll after less than 20 hours. As what will the departing Lotus GM be remembered?

  1. DoesNotWorkplace juggernaut
  2. Lotus' knight in shining armour
  3. Burner of RedBooks
  4. Forever confused with a sculptor

Here are the results:

Am I the only one who usually has to vote twice on these polls?

I vote at work and then the only way I can see the results when I get home is to vote again.

I propose an additional option on all polls "Just show me the results"

Ben Rose, 2008-04-03 12:00

You have before. It's not coming.

I like voting twice. I'm right anyway, so it doesn't skew the result :-P

I just enter

javascript:displayResultsWithoutVoting(28)

in the browser's url field, if I'm curious about the poll results and don't want to select one of the options.

For all that has happened at Lotus in the last few years, I have to actually say that Mike has been the one to go for extra funding for Lotus, and achieve that extra funding. Could this have happened in the Zoller years ? Probably not.

On the balance of events, I'd say that he's been an extremely positive influence on Lotus.

Remember: We dont always get what we want (as a customer/business partner, etc), and if you dont risk things and choose the safe path all the time, you end up with no great leaps forward.

Could Mary Beth's team been able to do the ND8 user interface without someone taking risks in the management layer? I'd hazard a guess at 'No'.

I for one only hope that the next chap is as good, if not better than Mr Rhodin. He's set a high bar.

Before you press that vote button for the negative stuff, thing of the positives. Sneering from the peanut gallery is *easy* (Hell, I should know, I'm usually up there myself).

@Hans-Peter - Nice tip, is there any special code I could use to vote that Rhodin's moose bit my sister?

Ben Rose, 2008-04-03 17:00

Bill, so you say there is a risk demanding a modernized UI for a product that had 25 % growth over the last 3 years (according to Ed Brill)?
For Mike Rhodin maybe much depends on the success of Lotus Connections.

Henning Heinz, 2008-04-03 18:30

I also vote twice to see the results at work and home. Perhaps vowe should divide results by two before displaying them? (Thanks for the tip Hans-Peter!)

So the next poll should probably be: "How often do you vote in vowe.net polls (including this one)?". The results from that poll could be used to figure out what the results need to be divided by ...

Bill - don't forget, there was a GM after Zollar and before Rhodin.

... who happened to annouce Hannover (in Hannover).

That would be Ambuj Goyal...

A while back, I voted "Lotus' knight in shining armour." Ed recently linked to this article:

eWeek:IBM Soars Under Departing GM

The Lotus Community may look upon his tenure less than favorably, but I think that the general opinion will say that he did a wonderful job. All things considered, I have to agree.
