Four hours Domino outage at IBM?

Comments

How long was exactly the Google outage everybody was complaining about a few days ago?

I don't know. Apparently the web interface was affected through a subsystem failure. I did not have any outages on the IMAP or SMTP interfaces.

well, from what I have heard from some corporate google app users it was about two hours. some said, this outage of google apps shows its immature status and makes it unusable for corporate users.

seems that corporate users have to deal with much longer outages using so-called corporate messaging solutions :-)

Just to set the record straight, the Westford Mail servers are under the control of the development team. They tend to be a lot more aggressive in rolling out new versions, betas, alphas, etc. The IBM Production email servers (already running on Domino 8.x) are extremely reliable. I don't think my mail server (a cluster operated by IBM IT out of Germany) has ever been down since I moved to Europe in 2002 (at least I have never noticed any downtime).

I think all the IBMers who read this blog can attest to the fact that our messaging infrastructure is extremely reliable.

We also want the Westford team to be able to run their production email servers in a more aggressive fashion in order for them to ship higher quality code. So it's all good as far as I'm concerned.
