OpenOffice.org 3.0 ships

by Volker Weber

openoffice30

It runs on Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris and Windows. Natively, no Eclipse needed. Read and writes ODF 1.2 and reads Microsoft Office up to Office 2007. You will have to find a mirror that already contains the 3.0 release code. I guess 3.0 will be announced tomorrow.

Volker,

So why did IBM choose to take the Eclipse route for their implementation? Is it for the very sake of Notes integration?

It's an architecture play. You need to look at OSGi, Expeditor, Workplace Managed Client etc. Sametime 7.5+, Notes 8+, Symphony are means to get you onto this architecture.

Has anyone found an updated version for OSX PPC?

All mirrors I tried have all other version from October, 10th or 11th but the PPC version is from October 3rd. I can't believe, that there have been no changes on this platform.

Regards,
Ingo

Ich zieh gerade die OO Final mit 1495.1 KB/s von einem deutschen Mirror
In dem FTP Verzeichniss findet sich jeweils die Intel und die PPC Version..

I was looking for PPC version yesterday, but couldn't find it. Michael is right: the localized versions are there already, but EN appears to be missing on the mirrors I've checked.

US-English "International" version is available too: http://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/office/openoffice/stable/3.0.0/

German version is indeed available: http://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/office/openoffice/localized/de/3.0.0/

Netherlands version is not yet avaible (Oct 13, 11:00): http://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/office/openoffice/localized/nl/3.0.0/

@vowe: Any plans for "n00b-pasting" of URLs? I find it difficult to put in all the a-href stuff to get correct URLs

Eva, I have no plans to change anything on the platform. But maybe we should not post links to particular mirror servers anyway. :-)

Under the current circumstances with http://www.openoffice.org/ being unreachable due to capacity problems i am thankful for the mirror links from Eva. :-)

We can help each other by downloading (and uploading) via bittorrent. See http://borft.student.utwente.nl/~adrian/bt.php

However: I get errors on the new 3.0.0 stuff.
