Doc Scrubber cleans your Word document

by Volker Weber

Microsoft Word (.DOC) files can contain more than just text you see while editing them. Depending on the settings or features you use, they may contain all kinds of additional information that you may not want shared outside your home or company. Doc Scrubber lets you see that information, and scrub it from files before sending them to others.

Or just save to PDF and mail that...

I vote for PDF as I'm done with receiving pps', doc, xls and wmv in all sort of variations on my Mac. Quite some time I re-formated wmv to mp4 to re-distribute - I just throw them away today (kind of gave up I guess)…

Good for you.

This is for people who have to deliver DOC, because somebody else takes it from there.

Microsoft offers a Remove Hidden Data tool. Not sure if this is completely the same thing. In any case it does not let you see the information it removes.

Interestingly there is an item in the FAQ telling us "Doc Scrubber does not currently support the new .DOCX format used by Word 2007/2008". No harm done: Microsoft lets us know "In the 2007 Microsoft Office system, the functionality of the Remove Hidden Data tool is built in to the application."

anybody would know such a tool for the Mac?

The Website says "free for personal, educational and business use, but the setup says: "Business user must purchase an appropirate license." However the business link to the website does not work.
