Where is Notes 8.5.1?

This is the last thing I see, and then it is gone.

You're a lucky man. Mine failed at the setup.

Mine failed on setup as well - with error that AllClient update is not supported!
Obviously the Designer is separate application now which is causing the problem. I am wondering why IBM has not considered this scenario!? Which will be the very first impression from the new release!

Not sure why Volker's client is disappearing (I suspect a reinstall is in order), but @goran, you are trying to upgrade from a different version that is not supported. Simply edit and change InstallType=2 to InstallType=6 in the users notes.ini (found in %program files%\ibm\lotus\notes\notes.ini or %program files%\lotus\notes\notes.ini).

Goran, Designer is no different in 8.5.1 in terms of separation from the main Notes client. It’s never really been a separate application, although it sometimes feels like it—it shares threads and processes with the main Notes client.

I just did a clean install in a Windoze VM, and everything works fine. I have heard bad things about installing over previous versions however.

Uninstall Notes 8.5.1 Beta CD8, install Notes 8.5.1 worked in my case, but the screen painting seems to be still broken with Snow Leopard (no twisties in views, no labels on full-text search buttons...)

Peter Meuser, 2009-10-12

Volker - did you try expose? Same happens on my mac but a "notes setup is complete" dialog appears behind your active windows. Click on OK and the client launches fine.

I didnt even uninstall CD8 - just went with the upgrade to 851 and it went fine. Part of the upgrade is the uninstallation.

@Peter:
Regarding the broken images in Snow Leopard: IBM dev said that it's an issue in Apple's operating system and that it's already reported to Apple.
Don't know what exactly is causing this, but Notes is the only application on my SL machine with this issue. So there cannot be a general problem in SL with painting images.

Strange i have always thought that mac os x is the operating system where things just work. I have downloaded the ubuntu version of 8.5.1 and installed it with double click and everything just works :-)

Ralf M Petter, 2009-10-12

Karsten, I did hear about it, but which side has now a problem? IBM or Apple? Maybe all Mac user will just switch back to Leopard just to run this new hip application from a company they never heard of... ;-)

Peter Meuser, 2009-10-12

@Goran: You're probably trying to upgrade a Notes-only installation using the AllClient kit. You can either pull down the Notes-only kit and upgrade or uninstall and install using the AllClient kit.

Dwight Morse, 2009-10-12

@Peter:
Yes, I know. Although I don't think that Snow Leopard is a supported platform for 8.5.1, of course all the hip people (like me ;-) ) have installed it and have seen that only in Lotus Notes the images are missing.
Maybe IBM dev had hoped that Apple would address this in 10.6.1, but it is obviously not a top priority for them.

Karsten Lehmann, 2009-10-12

@Volker: I have just upgraded:
- My iMac to 8.5.1 (Snow Leopard icon bug still there)
- My XP to 8.5.1 (with Designer and Admin)
- My Windows server to Domino 8.5.1 with Traveler for iPhone

All fine so far.

Andy Brunner, 2009-10-12

Dwight, was is the difference between Notes-only and AllClient on the Mac? I thought this was the same thing.

Volker Weber, 2009-10-12

Volker, Dwight was talking to Goran who seems to be upgrading Notes on a Windows machine since there's no Designer for Mac.

On my end, I can confirm that Notes on my iMac (running Snow Leopard) upgraded just fine from 8.5 CF1 to 8.5.1. Showing still no icons except for the toolbar.

After the first start of 8.5.1 the "Notes setup is complete" dialog showed up which I almost did not see because it was hidden under another application's window.

So far Notes 8.5.1 for Mac seems to run a lot faster and the Activities sidebar plug-in is now officially supported. Nice.
