The MacBook Pro it is

Today I looked at the new 13" MacBook, and it is a wonderful machine. And yet, I bought the MacBook Pro. Why? No good reason. I like both. Last time I bought a black MacBook, just because I wanted to. This time it was the Pro. Only upgrade: I swapped the 160 GB drive against a 320 GB Samsung I already had.

As a relatively recent Mac user ( February 2009 ), I'm seriously impressed by the quality of Apple kit, and wouldn't consider going back to Windows, although I do run Ubuntu etc. on other machines at home ( Thinkpad R50, quad-core server, VMs ) and work ( Thinkpad T60p ).

If I ever win the lottery ( fairly unlikely because I don't actually do it ), I'd buy more Mac kit, including a monster server ( or two ).

Didn't you tell us that you will visit an Apple Store in London? I would probably have done the same choice since the current exchange rate still keeps the MacBook Pro 13" under €1.000,- ...

Did not have to wait for the Apple store, because everything is available here. I am also not interested in saving a few Euros and then have the wrong keyboard.

if you can live without the space buy ssd for it its should be mandatory in laptops these days.

I went to the Regent St store yesterday. Intended to look closely at the Mac Pro, but in the end couldn't tear myself away from the 27" iMac. The 30" cinema display looks tired and old in comparison to the new 27" iMac screen. Its screen dpi is second only to the 17" MBPro and it looks fantastic.

With the i5/i7 processor, these are very desirable high end machines.

Good choice.

I never looked back on a MBP (or powerbook for that matter) purchase I made with regrets. I cannot say that about most of my electronic purchases. Hopefully buying into Sonos would be the same.

USB ports still seem to be to close to each other to really accommodate two USB devices at the same time (e.g. one 3g stick and a memory stick)

@Felix - I have this very machine and LOVE it but you're correct... the USB ports are a bit too close together... I've never not been able to use the USB peripherals that I wanted to but it is a tight squeeze. Thank goodness for the MiFi as I don't think there's a 3G stick out there that wouldn't block the other port.

Regardless, I'd certainly buy it again... best laptop I've ever owned. Excellent choice Vowe

Cheers!
