And the best feature of the new iPhone 4S is ...

... it has exactly the same dimensions as the old iPhone 4. All your peripherals, screen mounts, docks, etc. still work. It's all around better, without forcing you to buy additional stuff. You don't even have to get it to impress your friends.

Nice one! Most people are so brainwashed, they don't even give a second thought to a very important point: peripherals compatibility.

Frank Quednau, 2011-10-05

I thought, impressing my friends and business partners is the main reason for buying a new iPhone? *scnr*

Holger Wesser, 2011-10-05

Just talk to the old iPhone 4. It has voice control. Most people will not know the difference from Siri. Many pundits don't get it either. ;-)

Volker Weber, 2011-10-05

Educate me on this, but wouldn't that voice control be a software-only feature anyway? In other words, wouldn't it be possible to push it to older iPhones as well with an update? I mean, they all have a mic, right? With the usual hardware/ performance caveats, but I would be surprised if this was such a resource hog...

Absolutely (besides antenna diversity) the biggest plus for the 4s.

And I even can keep the really awesome Wicked Chili bike mount from my iPhone 4.

Finally Apple learned something....

Eric Bredtmann, 2011-10-05

Yeah I can see why iPhone 4 owners are pleased with the announcement. For those of us hoping to switch to the iPhone this is a disappointment. "The best new feature is it has the same dimensions as the old iPhone4." Sounds like a Google, HTC, or Samsung ad.

Josh Humphrey, 2011-10-05

I can't help feeling Apple badly mismanaged this announcement. They allowed expectations to far exceed what they rolled out. For the first major announcement after Steve Jobs' retirement, I think it was a mistake.

BTW, I think keeping the iPhone 4 form factor was the WORST feature. Buyers of iPhones are driven largely by the style factor. If you pull out an iPhone 4S, no one will know whether it's a 4S or a tired old 4. Definite turn-off for the buyer.

David Martin, 2011-10-05

David, I think you are wrong. Maybe a few geeks are driven by the style factor and have the money to burn on a new model every year. The millions that have bought an iPhone 4 already however are happy that the changes are incremental. Their investment is protected for another year (when possibly a iPhone 5 comes out).

Most people that have iPhones (f.e. my whole family) is perfectly happy with it. Showing them a all brand new iPhone 5 would make them jealous and wimper and complain about not having the newest toy.

Apple will still continue to sell shitloads of iPhone 4S, have a bunch of happy customers that have the 4 and will upgrade to a next version.

Win-win all around. (And Apple can handle the whining by the geeks)

Perhaps the 4S is the "iPhone for Steve"

Franz Mattes, 2011-10-06

At least we know what the S in 4S(teve) stands for!

Could it be so simple that Apple knew this was coming and that a release of a whole new design would have got lost in all the news of his death?

The next model of iPhone will still have the footprint of Steve on it!
By that time the sorrow will be over and an even greater iPhone can be presented as the next "One more thing..."

Tomas Ekström, 2011-10-06

I think the iPhone 4S is going to be great, I am upgrading my 3GS to the new iphone 4S. I'm on the 2 year cycle for updates. I have Bose docks and other Apple ecosystem devices like my BMW that work well with the product. I am not changing my BMW for an Android. ;)

I also think the Dual core processor and the updated graphics are the two best features, with the auto switching antenna second.

My 2 cents

Rich Hunter, 2011-10-07

How come you're not publishing anything in connection with the death of Steve Jobs? It looks like you are continuing like nothing has happened...

Friedrich Holstein, 2011-10-08

Are you demanding I post about Steve Jobs passing away? Are you out of your mind?
